HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO TREK ON MOUNT ACONCAGUA

How difficult is it to trek on Mount Aconcagua?

Mount Aconcagua is one of the highest peaks in the southern and northern hemispheres and is part of the prestigious seven summits. Due to this, it is a highly popular spot for trekking lovers. People worldwide look forward to spending quality time on this mountain, but they might be skeptical if they will be able to complete the Aconcagua Treks. According to a study, only two-thirds of the people attempting this trip can achieve it.

In this article, we will be shedding light on how difficult it is to climb this mountain and if you should try it.

Is Mount Aconcagua beginner friendly?

The most straightforward answer to this is: not exactly. If you are a complete newbie to trekking, it is recommended to try out smaller hikes first, and then, if you are confident enough in your physical capabilities, you can move to these mountains. However, people's past experiences have indicated that the treks could be extremely rough. Carrying a 20 kg additional load while walking for eight hours every day for nearly three weeks is no easy task. Moreover, it would be best to be acclimatized to the high altitudes so that you do not face any breathing problems and can complete the trek comfortably.

The difficulty of the Aconcagua Treks can also depend on the routes you choose to take. Generally, the regular route is considered the easiest, considering it is the least prone to harsh weather conditions. On the other hand, the Aconcagua 360 Route is comparatively more demanding as it is more prone to snow and ice. Also, since this route will take you to experience all the faces of the mountains, it can be longer. The majority of the trekkers, around 90%, prefer to take the normal route.

How should I prepare for the trek?

As we have seen, Mount Aconcagua is not an easy trek. However, by using specific methods, you can significantly reduce the difficulty of these treks.

·        The first and most crucial point you should remember is that your stamina and physical fitness are the most prominent factors influencing the problem you might face while trekking.

·         Ensure that you complete extensive training for four months before the trek. If this is your first time attempting a trek, you need to train for at least six months.

·        Next, make sure you have the correct gear and equipment. Finally, invest in the appropriate tools and clothing to protect yourself from poor weather conditions. One of the most common reasons people quit the trek midway is that they do not possess the appropriate types of equipment.

·        If you are keen on taking the Aconcagua 360 Routebe extra cautious, take regular breaks, and try not to overexert yourself.

·         Other than this, mental preparation is equally important. It would be best to keep in mind that the trek won’t be easy, but you have the self-confidence to complete it.

Final word

Do not get disheartened thinking that you will not be able to complete the trek on Mount Aconcagua. It is undoubtedly difficult, but not impossible. Remember that with proper training, correct equipment, gear, and mental toughness, you will be able to complete the trek. Furthermore, ensure that you eat healthily and drink sufficient water to maintain your energy levels.
